Attractive, buxom women appear in advertisements for everything from beverages to cars. The media has turned the female anatomy into a socially required display that sells capitalist ideology as well as canned drinks! Doing my research for this assignment I found some videos that strongly support my opening remark. These companies have completely lost respect for women all around the world. One of the adverts was amusing but that did not stop me from seeing the true message behind the commercial. In the videos posted below you will see how the female body is used to attract the public and the most especially the male public.
The Nissan commercial below is of a woman and all we know about her is that that we can see her in a bikini nothing more suddenly her boobs begin to move up and down. The first time I saw this video though it was a lady showing of a talent the idea of the real advert did not come to my mind at all through out his advert its just boobs moving up and down. How would they even come up with such ideas for a commercial it honestly does not make sense as to why this will be the boobs are the center of attraction her face or any other part of her body does not show once main claim. Turns out that the point of this commercial was to advertise the Nissan Pathfinder. I believe the suspension of the car to be more specific. So theses guys were using her boobs to describe how the car would take speed bumps. To me this honestly makes no sense but I guess some males would find this attractive and indeed buy the car.
Toyota uses a woman breast to advertise the air conditioning in its cars. I think some companies don’t have that many creative geniuses. Something I have noticed is that you can really tell the point of the commercial until the end, which I find very disturbing. Back to the boobs, once again a lady without a face and any other part of her body showing at least this time she is wearing a top is what I think but as the commercial goes on we notice that her nipples harden indicating that she is cold. This concept will drive most men mad because there are some dudes who just cant control their libido and will indeed buy this car because they think that if they do the will indeed have that effect on women. At the end of this commercial we discover that the point of this commercial was to advertise the air conditioning system of Toyota cars.
This Nando's commercial cracked me up at the end I honestly did not see it coming the title of the video was a banned boobs ad so I thought maybe it was something about boobs. So this lady is a restaurant and she is on the phone she then asks where her burger is and then the waitress tell her that they are right there she cant see them because her huge breasts are blocking the fries. The waitress then pushes the plate forward and then she see the fries. At the end of this we find out it was a Nandos add about the double-breasted burger. I was literally blown away by the end I could not believe that a woman’s breast could be compared to a burger. I honestly think that that is the most insulting video to a woman’s integrity that I have ever seen.
This water commercial I admit I found a little amusing but it still struck me. This commercial starts with a guy riding on a horse. I thought to myself what could this ad be about and how come there was no lady. I spoke to soon because a few seconds later I begin to hear something that sounds like a babes cry. The man leaves his horse and races to the edge of the cliff to find a woman helpless. There is a close up her face and her boobs the man is happy. He goes to take a drink and then he gets a climbs of the things the woman will bring to his life then he gets on a horse and leaves her.
During my research for this assignment I have honestly may view have been changing towards the feminist views I honestly can not believe what women have to go through; the insult to their woman hood how they are used in commercials as ‘eye candy’ which lures man to buy the goods which are advertised I honestly am appalled by the way women are represented in this type of pop culture.
NB i have not done the citations yet
1. The author uses four videos to express his point of view. All of the videos are TV Commercials that advertise different products: Toyota cars, Nissan cars, Montavit water, and Nando's hamburgers.
ReplyDelete2. The first couple of phrases explain the author's main idea and purpose: "Attractive, buxom women appear in advertisements for everything from beverages to cars. The media has turned the female anatomy into a socially required display that sells capitalist ideology as well as canned drinks!".
The main idea is very clear, and the whole article revolves around it.
3. The blog has a broad audience, ranging from men to women. The language it uses (such as the word "boobs") make it less formal and more directed to a younger, less mature audience.
4. The visual elements are well organized. I would recommend making a small introductory paragrpah before the video that introduces each video and then another paragraph after each video with their respective anlysis.
AUDIENCE: Teenagers that seem to find these ads really interesting
ReplyDeleteQUESTION: I would like to know if the blog reflects the whole point of the assignment because i think feel that the article is a little sketchy
What is the popular culture item they are talking about?
ReplyDeleteThe author centers his blog on a number of different items, including car commercials, an advertisement for water, and an ad for hamburgers. Try to narrow it down to one topic, such as only the car commercials or only the water commercial. I think the water commercial alone contains numerous elements that you can structure a blog around.
What is their main point? Copy and paste what you've identified as their main claim into comments section. How clear is the main idea?
Has the author taken their specialized audience into account?
Are the visual elements well organized and effective? What could they improve?
"The media has turned the female anatomy into a socially required display that sells capitalist ideology as well as canned drinks! Doing my research for this assignment I found some videos that strongly support my opening remark. These companies have completely lost respect for women all around the world." <--Good point, but be more specific as to how it ties in with the rest of your blog!! The main idea is quite clear, but need specificity!
The author has not yet posted who his audience is, and there is little reference within the text as to who it may be. Possibly a younger audience that it is acceptable to talk informally with?
The visual elements are fairly organized and effective in this post, since the videos match up with the preceding paragraphs.
Answer the author's question or concern:
No question posted yet, but I would say:
-work on grammar/spelling throughout (use spellcheck!)
-the formality of your language is too low. Granted, this is a blog assignment, but I feel some words and phrases you use ("boobs") are a bit inappropriate/insulting for any context. Find some more formal and acceptable synonyms.
-do a more in-depth analysis rather than just including facts about what is going on with the women's breasts. There are numerous other elements of the commercials, such as the placement of the viewer, the actions of the actors, and the content of the audio. Also, it's good that you're including your opinion, but that shouldn't replace the feminist analysis!
I wanted to add something to my previous comment:
ReplyDelete- The audience is clear.
- The blog is very interesting and it reflects the point of the assignement, but you should work on the spelling and grammar.
