Females are usually referred to as a ‘chic’ and are seen as people who are not capable of accomplishing things that men are capable of a woman is seen as a weak person someone whose opinion does not matter in the ‘real’ world. They are viewed as those who should be in the house to take care of household issues. They are the mothers of the family.
Women are also seen as sex toys in our world there is a higher probability of being raped as a woman than as a man. On magazine covers a woman is portrayed as almost naked if not naked in some. While in most magazines men are usually fully dresses, this goes to show how the female is not viewed with respect. The picture shows Mrs. Ngozi okonjo-iwala she was the former minister of finance in my country, Nigeria. She is currently the managing director of the World Bank. She was appointed, she was chosen from all the men in the men that are supposedly better because she is a woman. This goes to show that a woman is capable of doing things a man can do.
Do you think this blog is not of point ?
You have some good points here, but I'd like to see a picture of Okonjo-iwala somewhere other than wikipedia for you to analyze. How is she represented in magazines or newspapers? You'll also need to offer some examples of other women in magazines to show how Okonjo-iwala is represented differently.
ReplyDeletethank you...will do :)
ReplyDelete1. What is the specific popular culture item the author is writing about?
ReplyDeleteThe author writes about an important Nigerian woman, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who holds an important political position.
2. What is the main idea of the post?
Society and popular culture have seen women throughout history as somehow inferior compared to men, less capable and fragile. They have always been associated with household jobs and maternity. But we have clear examples today that show that women can be as capable and successful as men are.
3. Does the author offer support for her/his main idea? How could they be more convincing?
Yes, the author presents an example from his country in order to support his claim. However, I think he should provide more examples and specify the accomplishments this woman has achieved while holding those important positions.
4. Has the author included visual elements? If so, are they effective? If not, where should they be placed?
The author provided an encyclopedia article to support his text. I think he should use other things, such as videos and photos, in order to make his article more convincing and appealing.
The cultural item in the piece would be women in political power. The main idea concentrates on the idea that women are more subject to crimes than men. Using facts such as statistics of crimes against women would help support your argument. I like the picture! But maybe have another one in her workplace or else the audience won't be able to put her in context.

No visual elements yet, except for the wikipedia image. Maybe you can find a TV clip of her, or a news article that talks about her, and elaborate on specific elements of these in your discussion.
